Royal Melbourne Golf Club Course
Royal Melbourne consists of two Courses, West Course and East Course.
West Course
West Course was built in 1926, designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie. It has native grasses around the tees and bunkers. Each hole is naturally framed. The green contrasts and designs are shinning for decades. The length of the west course is 6077 meters with Par 72. 5246 meters Par 73 is for ladies’ golfer. According to the Golf Digest’s 200 Greatest International Courses 2018, West Course was in the top position in Australia. It ranked at No. 5 in the world.

East Course
East course was built in 1931, designed by Alex Russell. It is located on the main site with seven home paddock holes. East is a bit smaller than the West, the length is 6007 meters with Par. 5316 meters Par 74 is for women. It is a nice construction of the architectural design. The East Course ranked 7 in Australia and 19 in the World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses by Golf Digest in 2018.
History
At first Royal Melbourne, Golf Club was named as Melbourne Golf Club while it was founded in 1891. In 1895 Royal was added as a prefix. Sir James MacBain was the founding president, who was a politician. John Munro Bruce, a successful businessman was a founding captain. At first, members played there for 10 years.
Its original site was at Caulfield, but unfortunately, the club had to give up that part. They had to give up because of urbanization. After that West Course was started in 1898 in the main site.
Royal Melbourne has published four club histories. The first one was published on its 50th anniversary in 1941.
The next one was in 1976 on its 75 years celebration. The third one was named Centenary History published in 1991. The last one was in 2016 to mark its 125th anniversary. These publications state the list of people and events that are related to the club.
Previously Hosted Events
Royal Melbourne witnessed many national and international golf tournaments. Till now it has hosted 16 Australian Opens. In 1959, Royal hosted the Canada cup, which is now known as Mission Hills World Cup.
1972 World Cup and 1988 Bicentennial Classic tournament was played here. In 1998 Royal Melbourne made its historic movement by hosting the Presidents Cup.
It was the first Presidents Cup, which was played out of USA’s soil for the first time. The fan liked that tournament so much, that PGA Tour chose Melbourne again in 2011. This year it is hosting the Presidents Cup for the third time. Women’s Australian Open was played here for the first time in 2012 and again in 2015.

6TH WEST, PAR 4, 391 METRES is one of the greatest holes. This is a privates members’ club, but a member may invite their guest to play there.
